my favorite subjects turn 1

i have been photographing mabel & james since they were born. today i shot their 1 year photos because next week is the big birthday! their mama, kari, is one of my dearest friends. i have known she & her husband erik, since high school. we even doubled for prom! (um 15 years or so ago *cough cough* that makes me feel OLD! )i've been with them through high school courtship, college craziness, engagement, wedding bliss, job changes, their first son, noah being born, life changes & here they are now with this beautiful family. it has been an adventure & an honor to be a part of watching their lives grow.

ok, so the more i edit on pics...the more i love them. the more i see them come alive. i always initially choose my 'favorites' when i download. because i shoot so much that i have to immediately begin to narrow down the field or it can be overwhelming for the client. it's easy at first, i delete out shots where eyes are shut, or something is a little out of focus, or if i have several that are really similar i'll choose the best & delete the rest. but when i go back, i always find one or two that i love, that somehow, i managed to not notice before. sometimes those will end up being my favorite in a session...although i've been told i shouldn't have favorites because they all are equally different & unique ;-) it's hard for me not to!

happy derby!

i hope everybody had a great derby day! i went with some of my dearest friends & i am so glad i went. this is my friend carrie, wearing the hat her mother, nancy, MADE. everywhere we went people commented on it & numerous times even stopped her & asked to take pics of it. it caused quite the commotion. start planning soon for next year people, i bet that crafty little nancy will take custom orders!

bovine baby #2

i had the pleasure of shooting the bovine's in the fall & got some really fantastic shots of them with their daughter lily. at the time mom mentioned to me she was pregnant with their second in the spring, so i was thrilled when they called me to photograph the newest member of the family, kathryn. it is the neatest thing to watch families grow. & now they have not one, but 2 sweet girls. these are just a couple of my many favorites...i don't want to reveal too much since an announcement photo is lurking amongst my photos from the day :-) ps-look at all that hair!!

harper's big sister

today i shot a dear friend's birth announcement for her 2nd baby girl, harper tatum. i'm not revealing harper on my blog since her announcement has not gone out yet. but i got some beautiful shots of big sis hadley, who is one smart cookie! she's got her daddy's eyes & all her mama's sass. i can't wait to post the pics of the two of them together...

what a beautiful day to be engaged :-)

today i shot shannon & ross's engagement photos...which was easy, considering what an adorable couple they are. NOT to mention it's clear they are madly in love and that transcended very easily to my photographs.that kind of love is infectious and i wanted to capture it! i feel like i was able to do that. out of all the weddings, families & babies i have photographed-i had never done a true engagement session & it was such a great experience. it's kind of got me thinkin this might just be another venue i want to pursue...
